just a few tweaks short of perfection
Today To-Do hits the sweet spot for task management on my iPod Touch. The array of features is superb, including categories, manual sorting, a beautiful and intuitive interface, ability to backup data, complete independence of the cloud, and capacity to edit data through a web browser. Furthermore, this elegant, cheerful app doesn’t make the mistake of going overboard with feature bloat. For a task management app, I find myself tempted to either (1) completely avoid using it because it’s ugly or fails to adapt to my individual workflow or (2) spend way too much time fiddling with tags and what-not, working on the to-do list rather than actually working on the tasks. Today To-Do is perfectly right for me. I have tried many, many to-do apps on the iTunes store and *none* of them is as good.
So why 4 stars instead of 5? Updates appear to occur regularly and steadily, but monthly. This means that some features I’ve requested -- such as the option to copy (rather than move) tasks, flexible recurring intervals, more detailed access to past dates, and quicker responsiveness to enter sorting mode -- remain in the queue because I’ve owned the app for only a few weeks. Still, I’m highly encouraged by the developer’s prompt, professional communications, as well as by other reviews indicating that he is responsive and continually improves this app.
If the features I mentioned above are essential to you, definitely give this app a whirl. After a few tweaks, this is the ideal tool to pursue goals and habits in the fashion recommended by authors such as Zig Ziglar and Peter Bregman (18 Minutes).
